  Ren and Jiang recently published a “verifiable outsourced attribute-based signature scheme” in Multimedia Tools and Applications. In this note, we first provide two attacks on the verifiability of the semi-signatures of this scheme by showing that a malicious signing-cloud service provider (S-CSP) can always cheat the signer unlike the authors’ claim. Moreover, one of these attacks also implies that an untrusted S-CSP can always forge signatures contrary to the claimed unforgeability against chosen message attacks. Therefore, this scheme unfortunately does not satisfy the main security properties for a delegated signature scheme.

  Abstract Recent interactions between cloud service providers and mobile resource-constrained devices have increased the interest on the delegation of expensive computations to powerful external server providers. At the same time, security and verifiability of the delegated computation are challenging though highly demanded requirements for various application scenarios. Many security solutions using advanced cryptographic technologies require a large number of highly expensive group exponentiations (GEs). In this paper, we address the problems regarding secure and verifiable delegation of GEs. We first analyze two delegation schemes for GEs both introduced recently in Cluster Computing by Fu et al with the claim that they both provide full verifiability. Particularly, we show that the first scheme is only verifiable with a probability at most 2/3, and the second scheme is totally unverifiable. Then, we propose a secure, efficient and fully verifiable delegation scheme InvDel for a GE using two servers, where one of which is malicious. With InvDel the delegator does not require computations of any group inversions (GIs) while providing full verifiability. Then, we extend InvDel to SimInvDel which is the first, efficient and secure delegation scheme for n-simultaneous GEs achieving full verifiability for n > 1. Secondly, we give implementation results of InvDel and SimInvDel using an Android application together with a comprehensive efficiency analysis of computation and communication with the previous schemes. For instance, when the required CPU costs for a single GE are compared with a 4092-bit modulus, InvDel is more than 220-times (resp. more than two times) more efficient than the local computation (resp. using a previous fully verifiable scheme proposed in the literature). Finally, we also utilize InvDel and SimInvDel to speed-up the verification of Schnorr s signature and Cramer-Shoup encryption schemes.

  Patientendatenmangementsysteme (PDMS) sind computerbasierte Systeme zur Verarbeitung von medizinischen Daten, die auf Intensivstationen sowohl positive als auch negative Einflüsse auf die Patientenversorgung haben können. Die Faktoren, die darüber entscheiden, ob ein PDMS eher Vor- oder Nachteile bringt und wie deutlich diese ausfallen, werden unter dem Begriff „Gebrauchstauglichkeit“ zusammengefasst. Diese Arbeit fasst die Ergebnisse aus 3 bereits publizierten Arbeiten zu diesem Thema zusammen.

  Introduction:The term “usability” describes how effectively, efficiently, and with what level of user satisfaction an information system can be used to accomplish specific goals. Computerized critical care information systems (CCISs) with high usability increase quality of care and staff satisfaction, while reducing medication errors. Conversely, systems lacking usability can interrupt clinical workflow, facilitate errors, and increase charting time. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare usability across CCIS currently used in Germany.Methods:In this study, German intensive care unit (ICU) nurses and physicians completed a specialized, previously validated, web-based questionnaire. The questionnaire assessed CCIS usability based on three rating models: an overall rating of the systems, a model rating technical usability, and a model rating task-specific usability.Results:We analyzed results from 535 survey participants and compared eight different CCIS commonly used in Germany. Our results showed that usability strongly differs across the compared systems. The system ICUData had the best overall rating and technical usability, followed by the platforms ICM and MetaVision. The same three systems performed best in the rating of task-specific usability without significant differences between each other. Across all systems, overall ratings were more dependent on ease-of-use aspects than on aspects of utility/functionality, and the general scope of the functions offered was rated better than how well the functions are realized.Discussion:Our results suggest that manufacturers should shift some of their effort away from the development of new features and focus more on improving the ease-of-use and quality of existing features.

  The paper studies verbal maritime communication by categorising spontaneous professional discourse observed in co-operative full-mission simulation exercises into the illocutionary points of commissives and directives according to Searle's original classification. The research adopts a Corpus Pragmatics approach by combining vertical Corpus Linguistics methods with horizontal Pragmatics analyses. Between-group analyses of speech acts by native and non-native speakers of English are carried out and possible risks of miscommunication classified and compared. On the basis of the circular Osgood-Schramm communication model the sender–receiver interaction is investigated for either speaker group. Findings include both quantitative and qualitative between-group differences in locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary speech acts. These differences are evaluated as causal factors in effective communicative acts and as contributory factors for miscommunication in the maritime domain.

  One Monad to Prove Them All is a modern fairy tale about curiosity and perseverance, two important properties of a successful PhD student. We follow the PhD student Mona on her adventure of proving properties about Haskell programs in the proof assistant Coq. On the one hand, as a PhD student in computer science Mona observes an increasing demand for correct software products. In particular, because of the large amount of existing software, verifying existing software products becomes more important. Verifying programs in the functional programming language Haskell is no exception. On the other hand, Mona is delighted to see that communities in the area of theorem proving are becoming popular. Thus, Mona sets out to learn more about the interactive theorem prover Coq and verifying Haskell programs in Coq.
