Insect hotels make an important contribution to maintaining the biodiversity of insects such as wild bees. This project was focusing on improving the existing insect hotel of JYSK, one of the largest furniture companies in Europe, in matters of product qualities, product information and product presentation. After analyzing the existing product and identifying potential for improvement, a prototype was manufactured. It was assumed that there was a lack of information considering the correct use of the insect hotel, so a usage instruction was designed and validated through a focus group.
The usage instruction was printed on seed paper containing wildflower seeds to facilitate the colonization of the insect hotel, since wild bees rely on adequate food sources nearby. Furthermore authentic product photos were taken, displaying the prototype in a realistic, garden-like environment.
