As part of our Usability Hackathon from 8.-11.2024, you can register for one of seven challenges.
SOOP (Shaping an Ocean Of Possibilities for science-industry collaboration) is a research project by Geomar, Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research and Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon. It’s task is to enable non-scientists to perform ocean observation.
See soop-platform.earth/de/startseite for more information on the project.
Challenge
The challenge would be to interview the marina operators and marina users to find out which measuring devices as well as which parameters are of greatest interest and how the collected data should be made available to the users in an app. The survey and the creation of a click-dummy (app-based interface so that it is visible on smartphones) would be the central challenge aspects.
Background information
A portfolio of different measuring devices for installation in marinas exists and can be made available to students and marina operators and users for the interviewing phase.
The measuring devices can be used to measure various oceanographic and meteorological parameters such as water temperature, water level, salinity, carbon dioxide, air temperature, air pressure, trace gases in the air and other air and sea parameters in marinas. The devices can be installed individually or modularly in the marinas.
