Hydrogen

The rise in the use of fossil fuels in the course of industrialisation is largely due to the combination of high energy density and good storage capacity. Future energy storage systems should have these properties, too. Here, hydrogen literally provides a link.

In the context of the energy transition, linking the generation and consumption across the various sectors is of particular importance. This is what we work on in our sector coupling test laboratory, for example.

The use of hydrogen should not simply replace the use of fossil fuels, it should be intelligently integrated into advanced energy systems. By focusing on the use of energy and material at the same time, we are ensuring that hydrogen, like other energy storage systems, is a fuel for the future in the figurative sense.
