Project description
The objective of this project is to set up and operate a pilot-scale plant which, by coupling hydrogen and biogas production, represents an integrated system for the efficient storage of temporally fluctuating renewable electricity production from wind and photovoltaics.
In the test laboratory plant, the electrical energy is used to generate hydrogen (H2), which then reacts with the CO2 of the biogas produced in the biogas plant to form methane, which can be used either as a fuel or as a starting material for chemical synthesis. With the plant we test and further develop the dynamic operation with a fluctuating supply of hydrogen on the one hand and the production of biogas from residual materials coupled with the conversion of fermentation residue into valuable fertilizer on the other hand. By coupling these processes, we test and optimize an efficient system of energy storage with simultaneous value creation from biomass under real conditions.
