Grid integration

The transition to renewable energies will not be completed by simply replacing conventional power plants with wind power and photovoltaic systems. As the supply generated through renewables is volatile, the supply structures must be developed further significantly, both on a conceptual and a technological level.

We look into how different forces interact in modern supply systems in electrical grids but also across sectors. To do so, we model and simulate complex energy systems. This also includes the energy management for a wide variety of storage systems and other flexibilities.

On the component level, we are developing solutions in the field of power electronics that serve to integrate wind turbines and photovoltaic systems into the grid. We also investigate how wind turbines can provide energy services which are provided by conventional power plants so far.
