What it’s about

Mechanical Engineering is one of the classics among engineering degree programmes, a success story – one that will continue in the future. Mechanical engineering is part of numerous products, and a lot of the time you won’t have the slightest idea: Sewing needles and cardboard boxes, cars and space stations. Traditional fuel-powered cars and modern e-cars. Mechanical Engineering makes it all possible.

Course structure & majors

Four core areas will be important throughout your studies:

  1. Maths and science basics
  2. Calculation, simulation, construction and visualisation techniques
  3. Widely used machines, installations and devices, measuring and testing methods
  4. Hands-on project work

We won’t only explain to you how particular components work together and how processes work, you will try it out yourself in laboratories and projects. We will introduce you to the most relevant calculation and simulation software and you will learn to use it, too.

By the fourth semester you will have to have completed a basic practical training to gather experience in working with different kinds of materials and electrical systems and fittings. In your fourth semester you will choose a major:

  • General and Constructive Mechanical Engineering
  • Drive Systems and e-mobility

In your seventh semester you’ll complete a three-month internship. Afterwards, you write your bachelor’s thesis.

If you want to become a teacher at vocational schools and make it your job to train future professionals, you can study the “Vocational Education” master’s degree programme at Europa-Universität Flensburg here in campus. You can shorten your studies by half a semester if you complete the “Vocational Education” modules during your bachelor’s.

You want to work?

We regularly conduct surveys among our mechanical engineering graduates and two thirds of them told us they had found their first job within three months after graduating. A lot of them had met their future employers during their studies, in their internship or when they wrote their thesis.

Your Bachelor of Engineering degree gives you the right to call yourself an engineer. These are some of the sectors you’ll find a job in:

  • System engineering
  • Automotive industry and mechanical engineering
  • Energy and water industry
  • Traffic engineering

Our graduates work in a variety of jobs:

  • Development engineer,
  • Simulation and calculation engineer, or
  • Project engineer.
