Project description

The overall goal of MariData is to develop, improve and classify rational modules for the energy management of ships using a carefully selected combination of state-of-the-art maritime technologies and experience as well as AI-based tools and methods for a pioneering product for holistic ship energy management.
The focus is on fuel consumption for ship propulsion, which in most cases is the largest contributor to energy consumption on merchant ships. Together with geo-information and a Decision Support System (DSS), which combines technical and economic data, these are to be integrated into a platform that can be used both on board the ship and on land by a shipping company.

The platform will provide online simulations for decision support for ship management, as well as assistance with short, medium and long-term forecasts and decisions in connection with ship operation. The DSS is intended to complement existing capabilities and provide users with previously inaccessible information and correlations. As it is important that the system is as easy to use as possible, user-centered development is part of the objectives.

The Centre for Maritime Studies coordinates all work related to the installation of on-board measurement technology and on-board software packages for the entire project consortium.

The year before the start of the project was characterised by the acquisition and reorganization of the shipping company partners involved as well as the planning and procurement of sensors and equipment for the on-board measurement technology of six ocean-going vessels.
