Project description
Maritime companies and research institutions in northern Germany have joined forces to form the EcoShip60 network. The aim of the EcoShip60 network is to develop more environmentally friendly alternative propulsion systems for small to medium-sized workboats and patrol boats that allow their users to travel at low cost with high performance and a long range.
EcoShip60 was initiated in the autumn of 2017. In 2018, the first step was to develop a technological roadmap and individual R&D projects from the following technological sub-areas of a propulsion system. The network entered phase II in 2019 and a number of sub-project applications were submitted. The Centre for Maritime Studies is actively involved in investigations into the topic of fuel points on board ships and their waste heat utilisation, ship propulsion automation using a new type of transmission protocol and the standardization of bunkering processes.
After the network funding ends, the overhead costs will be taken over by the participating industry partners.
