What it’s about
Good marketing will make you laugh, move you, surprise and entertain you – and, you will remember it. When you have the perfect combination of design, storyline, language, music and everything else that makes up your campaign, people won’t just remember what you are advertising, they will want it. In this degree programme we take economic, design and societal aspects of visual communication and combine them into innovative cross-media campaigns.
Course structure & majors
In the first two semesters of your studies you will get to know different narrative approaches and approaches to visual and cinematic communication. In addition, you will get to know various aspects of marketing, including intercultural questions: What works for an international audience?
We will also show you how to embed your project in a strategy and how to present them. Because we don’t want you to produce merely yet another ad or image video, we want you to be able to turn your ideas into a smart and creative concept.
In your third semester you will have the chance to prove that you can do all this in your master’s thesis.

How do I apply?
If what you have read so far matches your strengths, interests and your idea of what you would like to study and do – in short, if this sounds like the perfect degree programme for you, you should apply.
Applying for a master’s degree programme is not much different from what you did when you applied for your bachelor’s degree programme.
Please note that, in addition to the documents necessary for the application for any master’s degree programme, please include the following documents when you apply for this programme:
- a motivational letter presenting your fields of interest or possible topics you want to work on (further) from an academic point of view (one to two pages)
- applicants coming from design-oriented degree programmes: four to ten examples of your work in a PDF file or a link to your portfolio (no works on paper or three-dimensional pieces)
- if you com from a non-design degree programme: if you have a portfolio, please send examples of your work as described under b). Alternatively, send us a description of the practical experience you have gathered in design or film projects or in industry placements (please include this information n your letter of motivation).
- a list of awards, prices or publications or any design or arts-related courses or qualifications you may have completed.
A first undergraduate-level degree in a design, media, business or art-related subject from a degree programme consisting of a minimum of 210 Credit Points is a pre-requisite.
Applicants from a degree programme without a focus on art or design may have to complete additional design-oriented modules from FUAS’ bachelor’s degree programmes in order to create a common level of knowledge and skills. The decision will be made by the selection committee. If your bachelor’s degree programme consisted of 180 CP, you will have to complete additional modules to make up for this gap. You can take these modules in the course of your studies. The selection committee will find suitable modules together with you after you have been accepted to the programme.
