Project description
Studies related to the combustion of ship fuels of different grades and possibilities for the reduction of emissions using scrubber technology (ParShip)
The research project focuses on detailed investigations into particulate emissions after the combustion of different fuels (heavy fuel oil, diesel, synthetic fuels) in the shipping sector. With the help of a research facility for the purification of ship exhaust gases put into operation at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences in 2020, the aim is to determine which particles are emitted into the atmosphere when different fuels are used at different engine loads and what environmental relevance the respective particles have in terms of particle size and chemical composition.
In addition, the research project aims to evaluate the use of scrubbers as wet filters to reduce particulate emissions for fuels for which the use of scrubbers is not yet required by law.
