In the course of five dense days we will start with the basics of wind turbine modeling, simulation and load evaluation, learn how to generate simplified models for control, develop a fully functional model predictive controller for all operating regions and finish by implementing this controller to run in closed loop with OpenFAST. The course will alternate between two lectures and two hands-on exercises per day. Students will learn simulation and control design challenges relevant to both industrial development and academic research.

Schedule

  • Day 1: Fundamentals of WEC Structure and Wind Modeling and Simulation & Software Setup
  • Day 2: Control Basics, Load Cases & Mass Simulations
  • Day 3: Reduced-Order Modeling & Automatic Model Generation
  • Day 4: Non-linear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) & Optimization
  • Day 5: State and Wind Estimation & Full Controller Implementation

Fees

The Summer School is free but you need to arrange your own accommodation and meals.

Date

13 July 9:00 till 17 July ~16:00

Intended Audience
