The final thesis is an integral part of every degree programme. Before you start your research into the topic of your bachelor’s or master’s thesis, you have to register the thesis with the Examinations Office. These are the steps to follow.
Four steps from registering to your grade
1) The registration form
Download the registration form for the bachelor’s or master’s thesis and fill it in digitally or print it out to fill it in and hand it in to the Examinations Office. (You can also pick up a paper form from the Examinations Office. You can find them on the shelves in the Examination Office’s corridor.)
Bachelor's thesis
- Registration for a bachelor's thesis (German document; to be filled in digitally)
- Registration for a bachelor's thesis (German document; to print out)
Master's thesis
- Registration for a master's thesis (to be filled in digitally)
- Registration for a master's thesis (to print out)
2) Find your topic and register it
Consult with your supervising professor, put your topic into words and find a second supervisor. Now you can fill in the registration form and e-mail it to the team member of the Examinations Office that is the contact for your degree programme. The Examinations Office will now check that you meet all the pre-requisites (exams, internships, Credit Points etc.). If this check is successful, your thesis is registered and the time period in which you have to complete the thesis starts. You will be sent a confirmation via e-mail.
Please read the Study and Examination Regulations for your degree programme to find out what exactly the pre-requisites you need to fulfil are and how much time you have to write your thesis. If you have any questions, the team at our Examinations Office will be glad to help.
3) Hand in your final thesis
When you have completed your thesis at the end of the assigned period, you hand it in. You can hand it in as a PDF file via FlexNow or you hand in three printed copies of your thesis to the Examinations Office. Your thesis will then be forwarded to your supervisors who have six weeks to read and mark it.
4) Grade & colloquium
If the Study and Examination Regulations for your degree programme require a colloquium, this should take place within two weeks after your thesis is graded. The grade for the colloquium is part of your final grade. The colloquium gives you the chance to present yourself and your topic and answer the questions of your examiners.
