Jönköping University Summer School 2020

JU Summer School consists of two courses offered in English which welcome students from around the world interested in the areas of engineering, management, health and welfare. The courses have special focus in internationalization and sustainability. As a participant in our summer school you will experience academic and applied knowledge as well as a truly international environment.

Purchasing Logistics with a Global Perspective 10 ECTS credits

The aim of the course is to give advanced knowledge of logistics in purchasing and supply chain management with a global perspective. The focus is on the purchasing functions importance for the company result. Elements included in the course: purchasing and strategic sourcing, globalizaiton and Incoterms, supplier portfolio, legal aspects, sustainability KPIs and more.Complete course syllabus can be found at www.ju.se/summerschool

Prerequisites

  • 60 credits first cycle courses in industrial engineering or business administration or equivalent
  • Fluency in English equivalent to at least 575 (paper based) or 90 (internet based) TOEFL score. For English language proficiency waiver, please see www.ju.se/summerschool

Global Perspective on Health and Welfare 10 ECTS credits

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding of the global situation related to health and welfare. Elements included in the course: UN Sustainable Development Goals in relation to health and welfare, cultural aspects, complexity and impact of social determinants of health in different countries, International Clasissifcation on Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) and more. Communicating Nations 10 ECTS credits

This course invites students to think critically about ideas of nationhood and the ways that the media is involved in their creation, maintenance and dissemination. It engages students to reflect on the meanings ascribed to nationhood and to consider the media's contribution to them. The course covers: The historical evolution of ideas of nationhood within local, national and global contexts. Representations of nationhood in the media. The role of the nation in the contemporary media landscape. The ways in which political and social groups use media outlets to tell their story.   • 30 credits first cycle/undergraduate/bachelor courses in any educational area

Cost

  • Application fee: 900 SEK
  • Tuition undergraduate courses: 20 000 SEK per course
  • Social and Cultural package: 1000 SEK (includes welcome lunch, company visits, trip to one of Sweden’s best-preserved castles from the16th century in Vadstena, a trip to Gränna a charming city where popular peppermint candy canes are being handmade, excursions in the Swedish nature, Swedish Mid-summer celebration and more fun activities)
  • Additional activity (extra cost to be confirmed): Weekend trip to Gothenburg including the amusement park Liseberg
  • Accommodation cost for 4 weeks: The cost could be up to 6500 SEK approx.

Accommodation

Admitted students will receive a link to apply for accommodation.

  • Double or single room accommodation off-campus. The kitchens and bathrooms are shared with other students. Housing alternatives include bed, bed quilt, pillow, wardrobe, access to laundry-room and kitchen including fridge. Fixed utility cost (electricity and water included). Some kitchen utilities may be left to use by previous students. Access to Wi-fi and good accessibility to public transportation.

Dates

  • Arrival and pick-up service*: June 6 and 7, 2020
  • Course and activities included in the program: June 8 to July 3, 2020
  • Students are expected to participate from the first day until the last day of the courses.

Housing dates: students will have access to the accommodation from June 6 to July 4, 2020.

*Pick-up service is offered to all students arriving during the arrival dates and who register their arrival information by the determined deadline.

Visa requirements

Please note that citizens of certain countries do not require a visa to enter Sweden if staying shorter than 3 months. or contact the Swedish Embassy or consulate in the home country for more information.

Medical insurance

The medical/health insurance is not included. Students are recommended to buy a health insurance before coming to Sweden.

Clothing

It is summer time in Sweden, which means students should bring summer clothes. However, some days can be fresh in Sweden, so a light jacket is recommended. The dressing attire during classes is informal. For the company visit and special events, students should bring clothes for the occasion.
